Manifest, you seem to be reading this whole thread so I will keep this as clean as possible.
I just want to add my voice to the crowd since this seems to be the only way to effect change within CCP (eve). Much of what I have to say has been said a bizillon times I am sure.
I have 2 main issues EVE (CCp) atm, the first is the simplest to address. The way you've (CCP) have implemented CQ. All along up until, I believe the past month, its been stated that CQ would be optional. I was under the impression that there would be some kind of mechanic we could use to leave our ships and enter the CQ. This to me has always made the most since. A lot of times I simply dock to complete and request a mission, or to drop off ore. I am not looking to get out of my ship and stand in a room to do so. While I do like the idea of CQ (walk in station) and, would be very interested to see where it can lead, game play wise, It holds virtually no relevance to me atm. Thus I have chosen not to use it.
The other major issue I have with CQ is how much resources it takes to simulate a tiny, not so impressive, room. My comp isn't the best of the best.. Though about 6 months ago it was close to the top of the list. 980x intel cpu, 12gb 1600 mhz ram, and an over clocked water cooled EVGA 480 GTX FTW edition graphics card. Believe me this comp can handle anything I throw at it, gracefully. And it can handle CQ at 60 FPS (vsync enabled), however to simulate that one tiny not so great looking room, its using 90% of my gpu. There are very few games that actually draw 90% of my gpu for 60 fps, without adding heavy AA (X16). Those games that do offer great physics simulations, detailed graphics all around AND, over huge landscapes. Not JUST, a single tiny unimpressive room.
While I can only imagine the dedication and effort that went into making a whole new interface (avatars ect.), I have to wonder why CCP thinks this kind of performance is acceptable. I can't imagine how my computer could handle an entire station promenade smoothly.
This next issue is quiet complicated and very hard to put into words. I'll do my best but I fear I wont be able to encompass all of it.
For many reasons, all which have been stated over and over. Its seems as though CCP is going in a very bad direction. The memo for one, I understand it was a brainstorming exercise non the less it also shows a lack of understandings of the player base. Another example is the outrageous prices in the NeX, this just seems like a desperate money grab. You've price many of those items around the same prices I pay irl for my clothes. Plus the whole 60 ish USD for a monticuleà I mean really... Seriously... what is CCP thinking)? Next is the lack of communication for 2 days. All this is troubling to me. I've reading the forums closely for the last week and I have a very bad feeling about EVE.
I Joined EVE right after quantum rise, the first expansion I saw deployed was Apocrypha. I have to tell you I was blow away at the sheer awesomeness of that expansion. I thought "Wow, this IS what CCP's capable of. EVE is going places and its going to become a great game." I saw the walk in station videos from fan fest and it looked very impressive. I honestly believed, at that point, EVE would become a spaceship game with FPS game play added to it. I believed if you got there this game would explode in popularity.
But then I watched Dominion roll out with the "soul crushing lag." There was the system upgrade platform which was pretty cool, but only to be nerfed a couple years later.
Tyrannis, I had high hopes for, it turned into a chore, which I don't really use.
Incursion added fleeted PVE game play which I do like, but ultimately you just took the AI from the sleepers used the sansha ships and added a super cap. I like it but its was no apocrypha.
Now "incarna" which for years I was thinking would be this totally awesome walk in station addition with all kinds of elements, turns out to be a small room, ridiculously priced micro transactions (more like Macro) and some pretty awesome torrents and effects.
Let me jump to my final point now, each expansion has gotten less and less content it seems. The awesomeness which I first thought EVE (CCP) was has diminished. Worse of all several of my friends have recently been playing on trial accountsà CCPà You've pretty much made EVE a joke. They are laughing at eve, they are also laughing at me. I know the awesomeness of the game is still there in past expansions. It just seems like its no longer about making the most bad*** game ever, but is now about making the most money before it dies.
I have 3 accounts they have been active for over 2 and a half years. They all have 30 days left on them. ThatÆs how long I am giving CCP to turn things around. If not I will go on long break. If I do, I hope there is an EVE for me to come back to.
P.S. thanks to Pann and Manifest for stepping up.
